A tall and vigorous snowdrop found at its namesake place. It is a naturally occurring hybrid between G. nivalis x G. plicatus. It blooms in early March in my garden and is quite tall when grown well. The inner singular mark is visible as the flowers are closed, so you won’t have to wait for a warm day! They are also buoyantly graceful hanging on their long pedicels.
Honeysuckle Cottage is the name of the place where Sally Pasmore gardens. It is a picturesque low-lying cottage with a thatched roof near a small stream that frequently floods. The soil is so rich, said Alan Street, that “one could just dip one’s hand into the soil and pull up the bulbs without a trowel”. The occasional flooding means that the plants are growing in a moist environment with natural fertilization brought by the renewal of silt from the stream. Sort of how the ancient Egyptians gardened effortlessly along the Nile.
