Galanthus ‘Marjorie Brown’ has been proven over time to be a good and vigorous flower in the garden, but it didn’t start out that way. It took the galanthophile Ruby Baker to “discover” it as a quality cut flower in an arrangement by Marjorie at the Alpine Garden Society show in Chichester, 1999!
Being the variety monostictus - one green mark on the inner segments, it is late-season blooming. The leaves have a distinctively blue cast to them and are large and wide. It was said to be among the bulbs purchased from the Dutch bulb firm Van Tubergen in 1958 by Marjorie’s nephew, John Parry. So until the whole plant had been reviewed, it turned out to be a distinctive snowdrop cultivar deserving of being named eponymously.
