This snowdrop has striking marks on its outer segments closely resembling the inner ones and are held at a close angle of almost equal length. Upright with sizable flowers, it has a charmingly modest presence in the winter garden.
Discovered by Melanie Schilperoord on February 14, 2004 while perusing an old orchard where snowdrops were know to have naturalized. Her husband is galanthophile Valentin Wijnen, who has taught science in a secondary school for over thirty years in Hoeselt, in northeastern Belgium. The naming is not only the holiday upon which it was discovered, but also a nod back to Mr. Wijnen’s first name.
