Walrus

One of the most eccentric double snowdrops, having green tusk-like outer segments which all but shout out “I am the walrus!” It is allegedly slow but I find it vigorous in my garden, sometimes the flowers intertwine, resembling a seaweed salad. A low growing nivalis cultivar it blooms later in the season. Unlike the taller doubles and flore-pleno, it hugs the ground, so place it in an area where you can view it from above and other low-growing plants, perhaps at the edge of a rock border, where it will receive shade later in the season. Mine performs best in the open garden or next to less vigorous grass. Selected by Oliver Wyatt in the 1960s
